Satellite phone Rental from $12 a day
Why an iridium satellite phone?
Heading outback from the city on a camping holiday? Driving across the country? The Kimberley's? Cape York? Doing a geological expedition behind the Pilbara? How do you stay in touch?
Your Mobile phone only works by talking to cellular towers spread throughout the city or town. On the 1800 Frequency (MHz) the Cell radius is about 14km.
UHF radio reaches not much more than 20km’s. You need a world-wide coverage Satellite phone.
We have the Iridium hand held mobile satellite phone available for rent, on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
The Iridium Satellite phone really does give you true global coverage and you don’t need to travel miles to find a tower to be able to use it. As long as you have a clear line of sight with the satellites you can use this phone.
Why does the Iridium Satellite phone work and my mobile wont?
The Iridium Satellite phone uses a network of more than 60 satellites that are constantly rotating the Earth to ensure that there is always a signal covering you no matter where you are.
This means that you can be on the very tip of Cape York or in the middle of the Sahara Desert and as long as you have a clear line of sight to the sky you will have a signal to call anyone that you want to. It could be as simple as a personal phone call to talk to family or mates to boast about where you are, or it could be a situation that enables you to contact the Royal Flying Doctors Service or the Police and perhaps save your life or that of someone you encounter during your travels. That's the kind of reassurance that you need.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service
The RFDS began as the dream of the Rev John Flynn, a minister with the Presbyterian Church. He witnessed the daily struggle of pioneers living in remote areas where just two doctors provided the only medical care for an area of almost 2 million square kilometres. Flynn’s vision was to provide a ‘mantle of safety’ for these people and on 15 May 1928, his
dream had become a reality with the opening of the Australian Inland Mission Aerial Medical Service (later renamed the Royal Flying Doctor Service) in Cloncurry, Queensland.
